We are presently living in a fast pace society, time becomes an illusion, we are constantly, chasing the future into the tomorrow, or remembering a nostalgia of our past history.
The ‘present’ is where we are, in essence, living, breathing, becoming, creating, expanding, growing, learning, in motion ‘being’. Once we begin to trust and be more in the space of being ‘present’ we become ‘in tune’ to ourselves, connected to our internal and external world. Artists, poets, musicians, writers, inventors, visionaries, entrepreneurs, understand the importance of ‘being present’, creative ideas and inspirations are born from the present, fertile mind, within the here and now.
The art of presence connects us to our minds and bodies, the importance of this assists us to listen and intuitively become aware of our physical body. Meditation can be practiced in different forms, through creative means, sport, yoga, qiqong, walking, sitting in lotus position, being present is key. Initially 5 minutes per day for 21 days and build up to x10 minutes per day. Noticed where you keep the stress in your body, this is the first start to understanding the importance of being connected to your physical being.
Our bodies are working for us daily, as a car or vehicle it requires the correct fuel and maintenance to be reliable and run efficiently, taking care of our health and well being is one of the most important priorities. It begins with, the fuel, in our case, the food we put into our bodies, is the result of how our health manifests within the internal and external body.
The Greek Philosopher, Hippocrates once wrote –
“Food is thy medicine”
I encourage you to try this technique of meditation, 5 minutes per day, be present and be aware of your physical body and ask yourself these questions –
Where am I holding stress and tension in my body?
Am I putting healthy fuel, food into my body to go the full mileage and speed I’m currently doing?
Do I eat regular healthy meals?
Do I exercise at least x4 times per week for 30 min each?
Is my health, presently the best it can be?
Can I make small changes to some parts of my health and well being to benefit my overall health?

An observer and caretaker of nature, the most happiest moments I’ve experienced, is when I’m fully immersed within the present moment with mother nature. Being aware of the breathe and letting go of the ego, in trying to configure the past or future. By just being present, stress and tension is naturally released from the mind and body, gradually a moment of trust and surrender arises.
During my travels, especially through Africa, South East Asia, Malaysia and Indonesia, it is very apparent how many people in these countries, have less externally, materialistically and yet, seem to have more internally, big open hearts and tenacity of the human spirit, they have a strong sense of community life, a philosophy of ‘Ubuntu’ as referred to in Africa.
Daily living and volunteering within these communities taught me and captured the importance of being ‘present’ of survival and daily life, going back to basics of safe shelter, clothing, nutritional food, looking out for the other, working together as a community. Less becomes more, more becomes less, an inner richness and uplifting feeling to the human spirit transforms.
Ubuntu, I am because we are
In further observation, back in the western world, we have more in external things and choices, a click of a button and we can purchase a plane ticket to the other side of the world, which is the basic cost of a 6 months salary for a family living in Asia or Africa. A click of a button, we can order all of our material creature comforts, without leaving our homes.
In reality, in our busy lives, with more things, more busy working hours, more busy social lives, social media, with more distraction, from being focused in the present moment, without having moments of being quiet and still in nature, we’ve become desensitized, disconnected from ourselves, mother nature and one another.
We’ve lost touch of the sense of community, to help the other and continue to feed the ‘ego’ of things, in process, isolating ourselves, building walls and boundaries, frontiers, around our hearts and minds. Internal and external happiness seems to become a self illusion, mirage, a perpetual cycle of the hamster running inside a wheel.
Happiness is a responsibility of our own and to find inner happiness, becomes an art of balancing the external and internal, the doorway can be through the simple things, nature can be a wonderful and powerful way, by going back to our basics, back to the simplicity of nature, it could be a walk in the forest, sitting in a garden, swimming in the ocean, taking your dog for a walk in the park, finding the time to reconnect with ourselves and thus with mother nature.
To live a stress free lifestyle, begin again, by being introspective and find a way, to reconnect with mother nature.
The importance is, how often, do we find the time to reconnect, adapting this into our everyday lifestyle?This adaptation, will eventually become an enjoyable and stress relieving process! Japanese Doctors and scientists, did an interesting experiment on the positive effect of trees’ and how taking a walk in a forest, called ‘Forest Bathing’, or ‘Shinrin Yoku‘ in Japanese, this has a positive impact on people’s well being. The results were astounding, cancer patients, people with high levels of stress, taking a break, by walking through the forest had long term, positive affects on their health and well being.
Forest air doesn’t just feel fresher and better, inhaling phytoncide, seems to actually improve the immune system function.

This present moment is a perfect starting point to take walk in nature, in a forest or in your garden recharge your batteries, reconnect, the benefits for your well being is worth your while.

How often in our lives have we questioned ourselves in finding a more harmonious and balanced lifestyle not only within ourselves, but within our personal relationships, family, friends, partners, your pets?
I often remind myself and my clients, there is no general ‘quick fix’ to inner and outer harmony and our yin and yang balance. There is no absolute truths in finding this either. Some people find this through there own vices, whether it be through a hobby, sport, a personal interest, yoga, meditation, walking, nature, freediving, scuba, surfing, reading, dancing, music, the list is endless. The question is, does this action have a positive impact on your inner and outer well being? Does it create a sense of harmony and balance not just for yourself, but for others, animals and nature?
Everything is in constant motion of action and reaction, cause and effect, full cycles, the cycle of life is continuous. We are a part of this cycle, a part of nature, we are nature. Meditation is a simple tool to assist you to get back to your quiet inner centre, back to your inner nature, your inner yin and yang, reconnect and be in harmony with yourself, others, mother nature.
If you are 100 percent present in the moment, with your hobby or sport, you are already meditating, if it helps finds your inner centre, harmony and balance, that is one of the key ingredients to assisting in your well being. Which means less stress and this has a positive impact (cause and effect) for your family, friends, pets, your loved ones around you.
Today, find a quiet moment, just ten minutes, for yourself and reflect on what brings you inner harmony and balance? Is this positive and does it help with your inner and outer health, well being? Begin with a few deep breathes, close your eyes, imagine a quiet, calm, sandy beach and allow stress to dissolve away….
This simple technique every day can be a beginning of creating a healthier, balanced and harmonious lifestyle for you!

Meditation can be a single drop of water within the ocean, or it can be the entire ocean
Have you had those days where the rain never seems to stop? Mother Nature opens the sky and water continues for days upon end? The sky is grey, clouds are dark and the sun has fallen asleep with no sunrise or sunset… It’s been like this recently in France, for the past week and trying to be motivated to meditate and do my daily practice, (the words from Yoda start to ring true)..and
Back to reality…being ‘present’ is an important focus point in meditation including the point of breath and discipline. Without these three main factors in your meditation practice, motivation to continue can become a challenge. We can always find excuses why we cannot find the time, discipline, inspiration to do something; in this context, I’m referring to meditation. In the next few weeks, I will be posting some guidance on various techniques of meditation practice, how to overcome limiting thoughts and excuses when it begins with your meditation practice. For beginners this will be helpful too.
Practice makes perfect! I shall be including breath work meditation for freediving and an interview…watch this space..

The Art and practice of Tai Chi, Qigong is a constant life long journey of self mastery, this is an internal process of personal evolution. To practice any form of meditation takes focus and discipline, this can be done in any environment indoors or outdoors, ideally in nature. Nature will hold the space you need, to calm your body and mind during your meditation. Recently, we did a Qigong meditation within the forest, of France, you can see my clothing is for outdoors winter, with wellies! My teachers always reminded me, in sun or frost, rain or snow, if you have the beautiful surroundings of mother nature to do your practice, see this as a great gift of opportunity and enjoy!
